Sdra's profits halved through pulp price drop

Sdra has blamed sliding pulp prices for a near halving of its operating profitfor the first six months of 2002.

The Swedish forestry groups figures slumped to 16m against nearly 31m a year ago.
Compared with last year, income was mainly affected by lower pulp prices, said a spokesman.

They hit a low in April of 281 per tonne for bleached long-fibre pulp, he said. But the weak dollar helped push up the price to 313.

Sdras net sales were over 4bn from January to June up from 3.8bn a year ago.
Production at its pulp mills in Mnsters, Mrrum, Vr, Tofte and Folla totalled 940,000 tonnes, an increase of 29,000 tonnes.
