The Kodak Prosper 5000XL can produce close to 175 lines per inch, with roll-feed speeds reaching 200 meters per minute. The new press will be integrated into Mercury's book printing system that features Lasermax Roll Systems Wide Unwind & Rewind units and finishing lines that include the Stack 2230 Systems that feed the Muller Martini Sigma Binder system via a Shuttleworth conveyer.
"The trends that we're seeing include a mandate from publishers to reduce their inventories, incorporate more customization, and reduce the price point of textbooks," Mercury operations vp Christian Schamberger said in a statement. "With the Prosper 5000XL press, we can provide our customers the product they need at the quantities they need, when they need it."
Mercury added it has been looking to boost its business from large textbook publishers such as McGraw Hill Education, Pearson and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
