The Pro C5200 series comprises the Ricoh Pro C5200s and Ricoh Pro C5210s and is mainly intended for use by commercial printers producing between 10,000 and 100,000 impressions a month.
The series is having its first European showing at the Sign and Print trade show in Stockholm (7 to 9 February) but will be given its first UK outing at PrintWeekLive!, around which time pricing will be revealed. The machines will start shipping immediately after the UK trade show, which takes places at the Wasps Arena, Coventry, on 8-9 March.
Ricoh UK head of new marketing services Gareth Parker said: “This would suit quite an interesting mix of the market, you would put in smaller commercial print requirements but also corporate requirements as well, which has been a keen focus for us. The print room or corporate reprographics department (CRD) market is a big part of the UK and this product will absolutely suit that particular client.
“From our perspective it’s very much a light production print or commercial production engine. The sort of benefits that I would expect it to bring users are a significant increase in media capability, particularly with larger or lengthier and also textured stocks. It’s a better quality colour machine, better density and they’re also going to see a wider selection of finishing options on the products.
“For Ricoh, for the show [PrintWeekLive!], and for where we are in this marketplace, this is yet another ode to our dedication to the marketplace. We have been consistent since 2008/09 and this underpins our continued commitment.”
The two printers run at maximum speeds of 65ppm and 80ppm respectively, both printing at a maximum resolution of 1,200x4,800dpi. Ricoh said the image quality is comparable to the output from its flagship digital colour cut-sheet presses.
Using an EFI Fiery digital front-end, they can take a range of media up to 360gsm and both machines have an embedded paper library to support operators. They have a capacity of 8,250 sheets and take long sheets of up to 1,300x330mm.
“The R&D has without question been based on the market trends. The market is quickly becoming used to extended capability of slightly larger, higher-end products and what you’re seeing here is that capability drift down in to this light marketplace and the media is one of the main factors driving that interest,” added Parker.
For booklet production, the series also comes with the optional addition of a Plockmatic cover interposer and booklet finisher with saddle stitching and folding capabilities.
Last November, Ricoh used its Open New Worlds experience day to launch its new Pro 8200 series of mono digital printers as direct replacements for the Pro 8100 series, while last month it became the first digital press manufacturer to be issued with a UKAS accredited ISO 12647 certification.
