Ricoh Fantasy Football League November winner announced

Attention on the Barclays Premier League was briefly distracted last week as football fans waited with baited breath to hear the big news from the world's biggest football competition - the PrintWeek Fantasy Football League.

But even fantasy football took second billing on Friday evening (4 December) as England learnt its fate ahead of next year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The group that England drew, which contained Algeria, Slovenia and the US, inevitably led to calls of "easy", but it may just turn out that the side scrapes a draw in the opener with the Americans and winds up facing Germany in the last 16 – a daunting task for any team.

Even in the top flight, it was "fantasy football" for Tottenham Hotspur fans as their team recorded its biggest win for 32 years in beating Wigan 9-1 – for the record, Wigan fans didn't see what the big deal was, they beat Bradford 44-10 in March.

Spurs' goalfest was spearheaded by Jermaine Defoe, who bagged five goals and may well have single-handedly placed Clicks FC, managed by David Spaul, of Clicks Digital, at the top of the November table.

Spaul ploughed most of his resources into the front line of his team with Defoe as captain alongside Darren Bent and Robbie Blake, and a midfield championed by Cesc Fabregas.

As this month's winner, Spaul receives two tickets to a Coventry City match, as well as the chance to nominate two people to play at the Ricoh Arena against a printweek.com/Ricoh XI side, plus one month's banner advertising on printweek.com for his company.

In second position, Rodney Osborne's Waysgoose Wanderers, from Stable Print and Design, includes three Fulham players, captained again by Jermaine Defoe. Both teams also feature Chelsea and Birmingham City players in defence.

Third place goes to Here Son on me ead – a team managed by GKD Litho's Donna Taylor. Again featuring a strong Chelsea-led defence, it's Wayne Rooney at the attacking end, supported by Wigan Athletic's Hugo Rodallega and Sunderland's Darren Bent.
