Repro India conducts publisher's conclave on future trends in publishing

Mumbai based commercial print service provider Repro India, organised a publishers conclave on the 17 September 2010 in New Delhi.

This was the first of its kind initiative of a printer to bring the publishing community together to discuss trends, issues and dynamics in the changing marketplace. The event was attended by 120 odd publishers from across the Delhi NCR.

The theme of "future trends in publishing" debated the increasing importance and revenue potential of digital content and archival value and its impact on the industry.

Two leading international experts Robert Baensch and Chris Curtis presented their views on adoption of best practices to face the onslaught of the digital age. They spoke on the frontiers and dynamics of integration of best practices for a publisher in the value chain of contentdigitisation, publication and printing with measures for better efficiencies in segments like content management, printing techniques and fulfillment solutions.

Most publishers felt that such an event is conducive for the publishing community, to share the dynamics of new age publishing like POD, eBooks, mobile content delivery causing a paradigm shift in the way print is perceived and published with concern of monetization and new revenues streams.

Pramod Khera, executive director, Repro India said: "Digital is a reality and we have to live with it. Early adaption and delivery mechanism will help embrace is positively. Immediate times are no threat to print industry but a equilibrium and harmony will prevail with times, digital and print complementing each other in the long-run."

Baensch and Curtis both concluded that print will remain the basic platform and digital will compliment the later and vice versa. Baensch said: "Digital delivery helps precise and specific body of knowledge to individual like internet search engine and is a creative value chain in the print and publishing process."

Curtis said: "Whatever be the scenario but for India, there will always be a harmonious combination of print and deliver and deliver and print; a land of coexistence, a path for future strategy."
