The Bromley-based company purchased a Polar 115 guillotine and Stahl Ti52, with cross-fold knife, from used machinery supplier SM Graphics.
Managing director Andy Smith, who runs the company alone, said that he only bought the equipment after the closure of Parkside Print Finishers, which both owned his premises and provided finishing services.
He said: "When Parkside closed and sold all of its equipment, I had to purchase the finishing kit. I didn’t want to, but it has left us in a stronger position. I can offer a better service and have won more jobs since the kit came in."
Smith was made redundant by Unite in February this year, after a 25-year stint working in the union’s in-house print department following Unite’s decision to move into digital.
With his redundancy payment Smith bought the union’s two-colour Speedmaster SM52 and set up a print facility.
Smith added that the amount of business he is currently dealing with will probably lead to his first employee being recruited soon.
He said: "I would like to bring somebody in on the finishing side, somebody to help with the administration would also be of benefit."
