Relocation plans follow Olympic win

East Londons print community is set for a shake-up following yesterdays Olympic triumph for the capital.

Large format specialist Capital Print & Display and Moorgate Paper's central London distribution site are both located on the actual site of the proposed stadium, in what is currently Marshgate Lane.

"To us it's really an advantage, as we will have a new-build 12,500m2 factory on a six-acre site," said Capital Print & Display managing director David Gill.

"The LDA has promised to build a like-for-like factory within a five-mile radius of here and has indicated that the site may be in the vicinity of the City Airport, which would be a good move for us."

He added that he expected a new building to be completed by 2007, with a move to the new factory planned soon after that.

Moorgate Paper director Niki Watt said the paper merchanting firm was looking forward to moving to its new site next month, despite the fact that it is in the Olympic zone.

"This is a good location for our delivery service into London and the long term plan is to relocate to a purpose built head office nearby."

Watt said she was sure the relevant authorities would support the relocation of businesses in the area, as had already been indicated.

"The Olympics will be an exciting time for London and particularly Stratford, and should provide a fantastic boost to the local community," she said.

[o] Harmsworth Quays' print run for yesterday's Evening Standard jumped 100,000 yesterday following news of London's Olympic success. Associated Newspapers faces a different challenge today as it attempts to report on events and get newspapers distributed effectively following the blasts across the capital.
