The fire at the Accoil facility broke out among bales of recycled material stored in the yard in the early hours of this morning, and caused a large amount of thick smoke in the area.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue sent seven fire engines to the scene.
By 8am the fire service said they had surrounded the fire and the smoke plume had been “massively reduced”, although nearby residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed until the smoke dissipated.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

GD Web Offset director Paul Mursell said there had been a “small fire” at the recycling plant, but it had not spread to GD’s building.
However, the firm’s power and gas supplies had to be turned off.
“We hope to turn it on later today and should be back up and running in a few hours,” he said.
The Accoil joint venture was set up in 2018 to make use of spare space at GD’s Wath-upon-Dearne facility.
Backer International Assets & Resources is an investor in GD Web Offset as well as the Accoil business.
Mursell said the printing business had been operating at about 75% capacity during the pandemic situation.
