“Having stayed open during the whole of the lockdown year, we had the opportunity to review our business plan, and focus on where we needed to be as a print company,” said Pyramid director Paul McGuigan.

As a result of analysis, the Nottingham business has ordered a new six-colour RMGT 1050, from UK agent MPL, which is slated for delivery in November.

The decision to opt for the RMGT was driven in part by the firm’s positive experience from its first non-Heidelberg press.

“We had only used Heidelberg presses in the past, so we were a little unsure of the Mitsubishi at the beginning, but MPL had assured us that this was the right machine for us – since then we have been quickly converted.

“The automatic plate change is amazing, and fast make-ready gets the press up and running, and printing saleable sheets very quickly. The quality is very impressive, and the machine simply doesn’t break down.”

Joining the Mitsubishi V3000 and a five colour Heidelberg XL 75, the new press will be the luxury and commercial printer’s second from MPL and will replace a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD102, which was sold late last year.

Like the V3000, Pyramid plans to run its new press alcohol free.

The RMGT 1050 will be configured with RMGT’s Smart FPC simultaneous plate change, chamber coater, extended delivery and Smart Assist Printing package, which offers pre-flight job programming.

It will also feature RMGT’s PQS-D inline colour and quality control system, Make-Ready Wizard, which handles all pre-sets, blanket and roller washes and pre-inking and Press Information Cloud server-based production and analysis platform.

“This is the most sophisticated, automated system that we have ever specified, and I firmly believe that this press will show the way forward for printers across the UK,” said MPL joint managing director Mark Stribley.

Pyramid’s £2m spend includes a two-year full parts and labour guarantee.
