Pureprint had just two days to turn around the job, which included the printing and finishing of 250 copies of the 254pp report, each copy of which contained three throw-outs - the largest of which was 1.5m wide - and a CD that needed to be burnt, labelled and inserted.
The reports were printed on the environmentally-friendly Mohawk Options paper, wiro-bound and individually shrink-wrapped before being delivered to BP's head office in London.
According to the printer, report sign off took place in New York on Monday night, while artwork was sent to Pureprint mid-morning on Tuesday (7 September) at which time the head of corporate reporting arrived on site to speed the UK sign-off process.
BP had set an initial deadline of Thursday morning; however, this was revised when the energy giant realised it would need 50 advance copies by Wednesday morning. Pureprint was able to turn around 25 copies by Tuesday evening, with a further 25 delivered to BP's head office at 9am on Wednesday (8 September).
The remaining 200 copies were delivered on Thursday (9 September) as planned. The main text, covers and smallest throw-out were printed on the firm's new HP Indigo 7500 digital press, while the other two extra-long throw-outs were produced on Epson plotters.
The CDs were burnt in-house and the CD labels were designed, approved and printed within two hours.
