PrintWeek's footie challenge kicks off

Do you think you have what it takes to be 'the special one'? Do you have a penchant for throwing footwear at your staff? Have you always wanted to be known as the 'gaffer' and call grown men 'lads'? Do you think that hanging is too good for people who use the word 'soccer'?

If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions then you need to enter the Ricoh Fantasy Football League at www.printweek.com/fantasyfootball.

The rules are simple (certainly compared to Fifa’s official explanation of the offside rule anyway) and, like the transfer of Michael Owen, it’s completely free.

Each person can only enter one team and you must be involved in the print industry (suppliers/manufacturers are welcome as well as actual printers, but they can’t win the prizes); you will have a budget of £115m (or almost one-and-a-half Cristiano Ronaldos); you can only select three players (or two players and manager) from any one club; your captain scores double points; and you can transfer players throughout the season. It’s also worth mentioning that you can set up your own mini-leagues. A full list of the rules can be found on the website.

Now for the best bit, the prizes: there will be monthly winners as well as one overall winner at the end of the season. As well as securing two free tickets to a Coventry City match, the manager of the leading team each month will win the opportunity to nominate two people from their company to be part of the 16-strong squad (girls are welcome too by the way) which will play against the Ricoh/PrintWeek 11 at the Ricoh Arena (home of Coventry City) and also a free banner advert for their company on printweek.com. Regular updates will be available at www.printweek.com/fantasyfootball and via email bulletins and articles in PrintWeek.

The leading manager at the end of the season will win a Nintendo Wii package for themselves, and £10,000 worth of Ricoh products from the company’s range of printing equipment and a 12-month advertising campaign on printweek.com for their company.

To ensure your place in the free Ricoh Fantasy Football League brought to you by printweek.com you need to enter by Friday 14 August. There are only 1,500 places available and are strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

So get out your camel-hair jacket and packet of Wrigleys and pick your lucky 11. Who knows, perhaps at the end of the season you could be singing: Chim-chiminey. Chim-chiminey. Chim-chim chir-oh. My team’s the best ‘cos I won the Ri-coh!
