Welsh manufacturer Printing Components has been acquired in a management buyout, securing 20 jobs.

Lisa Cook and Gareth Arlow, local entrepreneurs and owners of Cwmbran-based roller manufacturer Just Rollers, completed the deal at the beginning of March in a deal financed by HSBC UK.

Printing Components will continue to operate from its Aberdare site, just an hour away from Just Rollers, with all jobs retained.

Arlow told Printweek that he and Cook had enjoyed a 25 year working relationship with Printing Components before hearing from ex-owners Paul Davies and Meirion Rees that the company was closing down so they could retire.

He added that while the manufacturing industry has recently suffered from global events like the Ukraine war, Printing Components has strong potential for growth.

He said: “We can easily double turnover by investing into new machinery, putting in a few extra bodies.

“Obviously, though, we’re only a couple of months in and we’ve only just bought the business, so with the costs involved in that, we’re hoping to at least increase turnover by 50% or 100% within the next one to two years.”

Printing Components has retained its focus on the manufacture of printing rollers, though it also provides engineering services to the printing, agriculture, and machinery sectors, including the production of mini-diggers and crop-sprayers.

This may be the last acquisition for Cook and Arlow for a few years, however, according to Arlow.

He said: “We didn’t really plan on buying [Printing Components] because we’d only just bought Just Rollers three years ago.

“And when we bought it, Covid struck - then three years later, we decided to buy Printing Components, and then Russia invaded Ukraine.

“There’s a joke between us: we won’t buy anything [else] out because something will go wrong in the world!”
