The systems will cover forest management, paper production and printing, and are part of two current initiatives by the PPA.
"One of the issues we are looking at is post-consumer waste, what happens to a magazine once it is bought and taken home. There are a number of gaps we need to fill," said PPA deputy chief executive Nick Mazur.
Since the beginning of this year the PPA has been working with the BPIF on a system for printers to evaluate the environmental impact of their operations.
The PPA has also been working with Pira on the use of resources in magazine production.
