Version 1.5 of the personalised page mark-up language (PPML) has been released by the Print on Demand Initiative (PODi).
It was developed specifically to address the needs of graphic arts. It is one of three subsets defined by market sectors the others are transactional printing and office/enterprise printing.
PPML 1.5 defines that graphic arts PPML systems accept content in PDF, PostScript, TIFF and JPEG formats. It also provides the ability to include page-size information inside the document, rather than separately in the imposition and print layout data.
The new release is designed to make PPML easier to integrate into systems based on Job Definition Format (JDF).
PODi is working to make PPML job ticketing compatible with JDF. One of the authors of the JDF specification, Adobes Craig Benson, is a member of the PPML working group.
