Life in Print will focus on educating local business leaders about the advantages of print, and the opportunities afforded by modern printing technology.
The event will take place on June 29, with a free drop-in knowledge-sharing session and talks from guest speakers.
Industry representatives include Zoe Deadman from Launceston’s Root Sustainable Labels, Nick Stacey from bespoke printer Ctrl-P, Oliver Gale from Fedrigoni, Lyndsey Gribble from letterpress studio Wild Press Paperie, and Gareth Davies from GF Smith.
Deadman told Printweek that the event had come out of conversations in the Plymouth Design Forum, a collaborative community for the local design industry to share best practice.
She said: “The idea is how to engage businesses about quality print and the skills and knowledge that are available locally.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to translate our passion and knowledge to a fresh audience and really engage them with what makes print special and what beautiful print can do for their brand.”
She added that printers can not rely on new companies knowing about their local print network if printers do not engage with them first.
She said: “Our industry is crucial right now in explaining about sustainable materials, processes and carbon footprint of material choices. Local print houses and creatives have a real opportunity to make a difference.”
Life in Print is the first in a series of Life in… events, explained organiser Christina Wilkins, founder of graphic designer Brand Biscuit.
She said: “The Life in… series is about championing those industries that bring creative ideas to life.
“If you are curious to collaborate, come and see how by working together you can create something meaningful and memorable.”
She added: “In a digital age where the instant fix of online is ever present, the moment to capture consumers’ attention is short-lived.
“But there’s a real value and longevity to the physical quality of print, as well as a wealth of innovations that provide new options in terms of choice, sustainability and cost.”
The event starts at 1pm on 29 June, with a recording of guest speakers’ talks available after the event.
