The 2.5m-wide machine was installed in early May and represents an investment of more than £350,000 for the Harrogate-based commercial outfit.
It replaces an Anapurna, which Platinum had been running around three years as a direct upgrade to improve the speed and quality of the company’s output.
Commercial manager Anthony Wyvill said: “We needed the additional speed and the Jeti Tauro is four times faster than our Anapurna so it is a step up. We explored the market but nothing else hit all the right points and we were already happy with Agfa.
“Our service offers a full marketing solution for our customers including, litho, digital, mailing and large format. We pride ourselves in supplying high quality products and we did not want to compromise on quality when we upgraded. As we manufacture a large variety of products in our large format department we required a versatile machine, the Tauro is a truly high-end hybrid that is up to the job.
“We love the quality on our Agfa so it made sense to stay with them.”
Driven by Asanti workflow technology and running a UV-LED curing system, the Agfa Jeti Tauro H2500 LED prints up to 2.54m wide at a maximum speed of 275sqm/hr on to both rigid and flexible substrates.
Platinum already has a buyer interested in its Anapurna. Wyvil said the new machine was bought brand new directly from Agfa.
Alongside the Jeti Tauro, the firm’s large-format department is rounded out by a Canon Océ Arizona flatbed system and an Esko Kongsberg cutting table, while its litho department consists of two B2 Komori presses and it prints digitally using three Ricoh systems.
With sights on £5m turnover by the end of the year, Wyvill said the company would be likely to invest further in both litho and large-format across 2019. Platinum is currently integrating a new EFI MIS and recently purchased a machine to bring foiling and embossing capabilities to its litho wing.
The company employs 48 members of staff on 2,230sqm floorspace.
