Perivan sold to Skyrooks

The Perivan Group has been acquired from its administrators in an MBO carried out by three former members of its sales team with the support of venture capitalists.

Nick Hood of Begbies Traynor, who was appointed as administrator on 12 November, said he was pleased the deal for the Leigh-on-Sea printer, trading as Perivan White Dove, had safeguarded more than 30 jobs.

Hood stressed that the new management team were not previous directors or shareholders of Perivan White Dove.

The name of the acquisition vehicle is Skyrooks, but it has not been confirmed whether the acquired business will adopt a new name, although telephones are being answered as White Limited.

Perivan Group went into administration after it failed to recover from a 2.4m deficit in its final salary scheme. It then cancelled an order for a new 10-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster, which was announced in October this year.

Hood said two MAN Roland presses still remain at the plant, a six-colour and an eight-colour, with the respective finance companies satisfied for them to remain there.

The company has also formed an in principal agreement with the Royal Mail to retain its contract, said Hood.

The administrators made 38 redundancies from the 72 staff. These included managing director Mark Croucher, who had resigned as a director, but continued to assist the administrators.

Croucher was formerly managing director at rival St Ives Westerham Press, prior to his appointment at Perivan in October 2002. He is understood to be considering a number of offers in the corporate print sector.

Perivan White Dove had sales of around 9m, and bought Southend-on-Seas White Dove Press in 2001, before closing its factory a year later to merge it with its own operations.

At the time of this bulletin no one from the new management team was available for comment.
