The device, which was supplied by Heidelberg, has been installed at the Leeds-based firm’s 2,415sqm premises in the last few months.
“One of the reasons we went for this machine is the very quick makeready – we switch between jobs very quickly, which saves on production times. It just gives us additional firepower,” said Penstripe head of procurement Charles Hewines.
The company already had an existing KH 82 as well as a KD 78, which was part exchanged for the second KH 82.
“There are slight mechanical modifications and some software updates on the new KH 82 but the operators have found it easy to adapt to and it is working very well at this early stage,” said Hewines.
Penstripe is running the new machine on a flexible day shift basis. The device operates at up to 50,000cph and can handle sheets up to 820x1,280mm.
The business looked at alternative folders but found the KH 82 to be best suited to its requirements. Having operated a raft of Heidelberg presses and finishing kit in the past, it also had confidence in the supplier.
“We’ve continued with Heidelberg because of the reliability and because the relationship between Penstripe and Heidelberg is a great one – there’s good teamwork between the two of us,” said Hewines.
Penstripe, which has 18 staff and a turnover of just over £3m, recently became the first company in the world to install a Renz AP-360 punching system connected to a Palamides Alpha-Plus stacking delivery system. The business also operates two Konica Minolta Bizhub Presses, a C1052 and a C8000.
