Learn2print managing director Jonathan Bray has written a children’s book that he hopes will become a ‘Bob the Builder’ for the printing industry.

His new book, Pat the Printer: Pat the Printer and the Village Garden Party is the first in what Bray hopes will be a series.

It has gone on sale this month via Amazon and eBay.

The book is aimed at under 10s. It features Pat the village printer and his daughter Ruby, who is his apprentice.

The precis states: “He and his team of staff, have a funny crazy week as they prepare for a village garden party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It has some amazing characters who all get involved and help get ready for a special visit from the Queen in person.”

Bray said the 32pp colour book, which features illustrations by Peter Gray, captured special moments with the Queen and what the late monarch meant to people.

Bray told Printweek: “I wanted to try and feed the print industry into the younger generation and inspire them to ask questions. It has a number of characters, Pat himself, Ruby the apprentice, Gerald the guillotine operator, Mrs Amend the proof reader, the list goes on!

“Hopefully folk in the industry will buy it for their kids. If we are going to change a culture we have to start with the young – my apprentices love it!”

He added: “I hope it brings a little joy to people and particularly those with links to the print industry. I hope also, it begins to get the message out that the printing industry is something we can’t manage without. There are so many exciting careers and importantly, apprenticeships within it.”

Bray also said he hoped to do a further version, possibly featuring the new King, Charles III.

He also has ambitions to get the book into schools.
