Packaging perils highlighted by web error

The importance of proofreading – and in particular checking the veracity of website addresses – has been highlighted after an embarrassing incident involving Mattel doll packaging that directs consumers to a site featuring adult content.

The packaging for Mattel’s range of Wicked dolls, a tie-in with the Universal Pictures film to be released later this month, features a web address of the same name when it should have linked to www.wickedmovie.com.

The duff packaging seems to be limited to an early release of dolls for the US market.

It has resulted in something of a social media storm, with many outraged posts.

Mattel apologised and said that it deeply regretted “this unfortunate error” and was taking immediate action to remedy the situation.

The error echoes a similar incident last year, when the packaging for Lidl Paw Patrol snacks listed a web address that had lapsed, and had been “compromised” with inappropriate content for children.
