It being January it’s the time of year when most people consider it a win if they can fit into an outfit purchased four months ago. For the super-fit Wehrle – also notable as being part of the exclusive ‘ever present’ group of runners who’ve completed every London Marathon – there are obviously no such concerns.
He donned a dapper chalk-striped suit, with suitably on-trend flared trousers, purchased in 1967 – that’s right, 48 years ago – which still fitted him perfectly. He’s pictured modelling this marvel with Radio Times editor Ben Preston and former BBC Magazines boss Peter Phippen. And that’s Mal Skelton in the psychedelic glasses.
The suit was purchased for the princely sum of £17 and 10 shillings from the trendy Lord John boutique on London’s Carnaby Street.
A subsequent outfit change rendered Wehrle unrecognisable as he donned a wig and glam rock get-up. “I can remember the ‘60s clearer than last week,” he quipped.
