Optimus creates JDF-free add-on

MIS supplier Optimus has launched an add-on to its 2020 product that allows data collection from any equipment, even if the kit is not JDF-compatible.

Connect allows the MIS to take measurements from any machine that emits an electronic signal, making accurate counts of press sheets, guillotine cuts or folds possible.

Optimus managing director Nicola Bisset said that Connect did not aim to replace JDF. "We certainly accept that JDF and JMF are the ideal technologies for use with CIP4 equipment," she said.

But she said that for non-JDF kit, the product allowed data to be obtained and displayed directly by 2020.

Connect components include a PC and a hardware box that detects the pulse or signal from a piece of kit, and the software to pass that data to the MIS.

Connect has grown out of sister company Optimus Spain's winSICAD product.
