Xeikon unveiled a lower-cost version of its DCP 320 D press and an inline UV coater at On Demand in New York this week.
At 70 A4ppm, the DCP 320 Dx is half the rated speed of the firms other third-generation machines.
We felt the need for a mid-range machine for firms that want a web machine but dont need the full production capacity, said Xeikon senior vice president marketing and corporate planning Herman Remmerie.
Openshaw expects the UK price to be around 160,000. It will be upgradable in the field to the full 130 A4ppm speed.
It will be available through MAN Roland as the DICOpress Entry, but no other OEM has so far signed up to sell it.
Xeikon also announced UCOAT, an inline UV coating unit that will fit its webfed machines and is retrofittable to existing machines.
Although Xeikon developed it as part of its digital photofinishing product, it has received interest in the unit for other applications including poster, book cover and security work. It is compatible with gloss, matt and satin varnishes from a range of third-party suppliers.
