Many of the nationals increased print runs and paginations for the event.
The Times featured a 20-page supplement, while the Evening Standard produced a special 6pm edition with an eight-page pull-out section on The Making of a President. The paper said it expected "huge demand".
The Guardian upped pagination by nine pages for the event and increased the print run, and even today, many papers, including The Sun, have published souvenir editions.
However, one source at a national newspaper print site did not feel that news alone would not warrant an increase in pagination.
He said: "Bearing in mind the cost of newsprint at the moment, pagination will never be increased because of a story. The only reason to increase pagination is because of advertising."
