New investments boost capacity by 30% at Headland Printers

Headland Printers has moved into four-colour printing by investing in a Ryobi 524 HXX and a Screen Micra platesetter in a bid to offer more competitive pricing.

Penzance-based Headland installed the press and platesetter, both from Apex Digital Graphics, to help boost efficiency and modernise its printing operation.

The company, which was established 40 years ago, was taken over by Marc Clemens, along with fellow directors Chris Williams and Chris Jenkin, around 16 months ago.

Clemens said: "Last year we invested in the digital side of the business with a Konica Minolta machine, now we have a complete four-colour package with the Ryobi press."

The 14-staff company has recorded increased throughput and a 30% capacity boost with the new machine following the recent installations.

Headland Printers produces commercial print, including magazines, brochures, stationery, leaflets and books.

"Things had to change for the business to move forward and for our pricing to be more competitive. The 524 HXX and the Screen Micra were exactly what we were looking for," Clemens added.
