Maynard explained MV Print had been putting work out to trade finishers due to a lack of in-house capacity.

He said: “We’ve been getting someone else to finish our work for us when really we can make money by finishing it ourselves. We struggle with our current folder, which is an older version of the machine we just bought; it’s only got four plates instead of six, so the new one will to allow us do the tasks that we used to have to pay someone else for.

“We also bought a gatefold unit because we have been asked quite a lot recently for multi-panel concertina and big roll-folds. It’s about gaining the ability to do other folds rather than taking on anything completely different.”

Maynard confirmed that the company is looking to buy a six-colour litho press next year and is considering models by both Heidelberg and KBA.

Despite these major investments MV Print is focusing on steady growth; according to Maynard, next year’s turnover is predicted to increase 10% to £2.2m.

He said: “We are aiming to grow the business but we don’t have any ideas about doubling the turnover. We just want a nice steady grow. We would look to add maybe 5% to 10% a year over the next few years."
