Mta moves into digital to fight decline in repro

Mta, the south-east London pre-press company, is to expand its services to include digital printing due to poor conditions in the repro sector.

We have seen a decline in the traditional repro market, and also seen some of our competitors fall by the wayside, said managing director Keith Horton.

Although business was still stable, he said the company saw digital printing as an area where there was still capacity for growth.

Mta has bought an HP-Indigo 1000 digital press, and Horton said that the addition of a digital print facility would enable the company to provide a fuller service.

The press will be used to print four- and five-colour brochures and report and accounts work, he added.

If the digital print business grows as anticipated, Horton will look to increase staff levels and add more equipment.

Mta currently provides pre-press services and conventional scanning, as well as large-format printing and in-house finishing.

The company has a turnover of just over 1m.
