Installation of the new MIS, which is replacing an existing Shuttleworth system, started in July and MRP is expecting it to be live by the end of the year.
MRP carries out the litho and digital printing of labels and packaging, as well as finishing, including gluing and stitching, in-house so required an MIS that could handle all of its production lines and processes in one system.
The Imprint MIS will enable MRP to estimate, plan, track and invoice its wide range of products with one system. Initially the two companies discussed linking all of Imprint’s dedicated estimating systems for digital, labels, packaging and commercial print together to enable MRP to produce multi-product estimates all from the main Imprint desktop.
Imprint then looked at the way MRP’s existing system handles works instructions and decided that multiple job bag formats were required.
Using Imprint’s Document Generator, the system will give MRP multi-page job bag features that give specific information to the type of work. This will make the firm’s high level of job booking faster and less prone to errors.
The included Production Control module can work standalone or live to the rest of the system by using Imprint’s Shop Floor Data Capture and with SentinelNet Machine Monitoring, while a time indicator moves across the T-cards as the job progresses.
Imprint has also installed the Job Record Card system to deal with MRP’s repeat work. This stores job history and all relevant technical information from the last time the job ran.
MRP managing director Stephen Bates said: “We looked at a couple of other options but Imprint just seemed so simple. When we took down some of our more difficult estimates they just rattled through them and that made us think it was the one for us.
“It will bring simplicity to the business. We’re not going to be going in and out of different screens to put information in – you enter it once and it flows, which should speed up the administration and processing of works orders, estimating and everything else for that matter.”
MRP, which has around 60 staff and a turnover of just under £6m, operates from a 15,000sqm site in Nottingham. It runs a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 and a raft of digital, flexo and finishing equipment.
