Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS), which installed the UK's first seven-colour Domino N610i UV inkjet label press at its Bristol label printing site in May, said its new accounts are mostly from the drinks and personal care sectors.
The installation was part of an investment programme including digital toner technology in its healthcare-focused operations.
MPS Bristol specialises in the branded-products sector with an onus on creative, colourful designs, said managing director Andy Walter.
The Domino runs labels for beer bottles and personal care labels in linear lengths of between 250m and 5,000m, and Walter said he has been impressed by the colour gamut, quality and 50m/min speed.
“Print quality is absolutely fantastic: there isn't a single spot colour we haven't been able to hit, so for customers worried about brand colours, this has not been an issue.
“More of our customers want the flexibility of digitally printed labels, but naturally don’t want to compromise their brand with an inferior product.”
Some of the jobs, previously screen printed, went over to the Domino because of its opaque white ink, which delivers a silk screen-like finish ideal for printing onto clear and metallic substrates.
“The company has also redirected capacity from flexo to digital and the Domino N610i. We have a specific customer with over 1,000 SKUs,” said Walter.
“Its product labels were previously flexo printed on a quarterly basis, for dispatch as and when needed. This job is now being digitally printed on the N610i on a weekly basis.
“This means shorter print runs, shorter lead times, no plate making, less waste, and better stock control with less inventory and reduced storage costs.”
