Micropress aims for 40% productivity boost with second Speedmaster

Micropress has opted for its second Heidelberg XL Speedmaster in less than a year with an investment in a five-colour XL 75-5.

The press is part of a recent £1m spend and replaces a Speedmaster 74-5 – a change which is expected to boost productivity by up to 40%.

Suffolk-based Micropress has specified the new B2 XL with Inpress Control to help it handle up to 12 daily makereadies printing commercial work as well as book and magazine covers.

Managing director Mike Cross said: "We have been successful in filling the XL 105 despite it being a very hard market."

He added: "You have to hammer your presses to make money these days but we have continued to increase turnover year-on-year and attracted new business, which we couldn't have considered without this latest technology."

As part of the investment, Micropress has also taken delivery of two new Polar guillotines, a 115X with jogger and stacklift, as well as a 78X model, which will finish work for its digital company, Think Ink.

Cross said: "Switching from SM technology to XL with Inpress Control in B1 has given us a 35-40% increase in throughput and we believe we will achieve a similar productivity gain with this new XL 75."
