The immortal words of the Holy book greeted those looking for some light relief, including the quote from the Gospel of Matthew: "Where your treasure is, that is where your love is."
The issues arose when suggestions for quotes submitted on Metsä Tissue's Facebook page were converted into Danish, and translation errors made the quotes closely resemble that of Bible passages, including a First Corinthians verse.
Metsä Tissue vice president of brand marketing Matti Hakkarainen maintained that it had meant to "bring small joyful moments to everyday life" on the rolls sold in Denmark, Sweden and Norway, not offend the Church community.
But unfortunately that is exactly what happened, with Laila Riksaasen Dahl, the Bishop of Tunsberg in protestant Norway telling religious publication Vaart Land: "This is bad taste and shows lack of respect. Bible verses do not belong on a roll of toilet paper."
Metsä Tissue has since removed the controversial texts from its printing plates and has said it will enforce stricter vetting to avoid such execrable mistakes in the future.
