Steele, who heads up the Cannock, Staffordshire-based printer was awarded the status following the completion of a certificate and diploma in company direction in 2007 and a series of review interviews.
Steele said: "Running a business in today’s fast-changing climate is extremely challenging. I needed to ensure that I fully understood the legal and financial responsibilities that come with being a director. For me it’s about becoming a business professional."
Jean Pousson, programme director for the Institute of Directors in the West Midlands, said: "As a chartered director, Adrian will be able to demonstrate to shareholders, stakeholders, clients and customers that his organisation is professional and successful."
Earlier this year, Mercian Labels moved into the web-to-print arena after launching what was claimed was the first online digital label service aimed at trade customers.
The 40-year-old company employs 21 staff and has a turnover of £1.5m.
