The company, based at a 929sqm premises in Coatbridge, just outside Glasgow, took delivery of the £60,000 machine earlier this week. The kit was supplied by CMYUK, a member of Mimaki's exclusive UK and Ireland distributor Hybrid Services' reseller network.
The 110sqm/hr device, which was launched at Fespa 2016, has four piezo printheads in two staggered arrays and prints at a maximum resolution of 1,200dpi. The machine is suitable for a wide range of applications including textile, banners and other display graphics.
Matic Media managing director Richard McCombe said: “We wanted to put a bigger flatbed in but we can’t physically fit one into the building now without doing quite a lot of construction work.
“So we decided to take a look at this machine because it can print up to 3.2 metres roll-to-roll whereas we could only previously get up to 2.7 metres. Additionally, three different medias can sit pre-loaded in the machine at any one time.
“We want to have dedicated stocks on dedicated machines because our Graphic Warehouse platform is based on many transactions with a low average value, for many customers.”
McCombe added Graphic Warehouse enables trade clients to create a quote for more than 180 large-format products, upload artwork, preflight it and deliver it to Matic Media, all in under a minute.
The business, which has 22 staff and a turnover of just over £1m, also operates five HP Latex printers, a Mutoh dye-sub fabric printer, a Canon Océ Arizona flatbed and a Canon Océ ColorWave printer as well as a Zünd G3 digital cutting table and a range of other finishing kit.
