Manchester City FC commissions city centre graphic ahead of Chelsea match

Premier League football club Manchester City have commissioned Digital Imaging Services to install a huge vinyl installation on the brick exterior of the city centre Printworks development.

The piece promotes the team's upcoming home game against Chelsea and shows former Chelsea player Shaun Wright-Phillips against a graffiti-style design.

It was produced on an EFI Vutek QS3200 in the form of a 10x10m vinyl banner of the football star, and then more than 120 1x1.35m pre-printed brick vinyls. These were heat-gunned into position during a two-day installation process that saw the company's installation team battle the elements 30m above street level.

The team also had to install the graphics over ducting, electrical installations and steel work on the entertainment complex in order to ensure a seamless product.

The banner will be removed and most of the graphics recycled under the company's ISO 14001-compliant environment management system programme.

Manchester City will host Chelsea at their City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday (5 December).
