Four chiefs at the Leeds printer bought the firm, which serves blue-chip clients and public-sector bodies, from its shareholders.
"The new management team has 30 years of combined experience of the business," said Thompson.
The five shareholders include the former managing director, Andrew Dagg, who is taking semi-retirement with his wife Linda, the former personnel director.
"We have helped RPS grow in the past decade, supported by the shareholders," said Thompson. "We look forward to continued growth and introducing services such as creative work and PR."
Thompson's buyout team included the operations director, David Woodcock, the sales and marketing director, Asif Choudry, and the financial director Paul Green. Resource Print Solutions, which was formed in 1989, has about 40 staff and a turnover of just under 4m.
Its kit includes three Oc 2110s, an HP Indigo 1000 and two five-colour Mitsubishi B2 presses. It is looking at buying another colour digital press, maybe an HP Indigo or a Xerox iGen3, Thompson said.
Management achieve successful RPS buyout
Resource Print Solutions has been purchased in a management buyout led by the companys managing director, Phil Thompson (pictured centre).
