Supplied by Ormskirk-based Quality Print Services (QPS), the new Roland arrived at Magic’s Leek, Staffordshire base at the end of January and joins a portfolio that had previously only offered reactive dye digital print and rotary screen printing.
With its new arrival, Magic will look to introduce printed polyester textiles on items such as cushions, banners and flags, alongside its existing range of cotton and cotton mix products.
Marketing manager Chris Shaw said: “People kept asking us for dye-sublimation applications such as polyester textiles and so we went looking for something like the Roland.
“With this investment, we are dipping our toe into the discipline and found that the Roland was a great starter that was suitable to our needs.
“For now, we are looking to offer polyester cushions, flags and banners, but I am sure our clients will come up with more requests that we can now fulfil. The experience so far has been very positive, and we have spoken to QPS a couple of times about how happy we are.”
With an RRP of £14,299 and launched in 2014, the Roland RT-640 dye-sub can take media up to 1.6m wide and 1mm thick. Using Roland’s own Texart inks, it prints at resolutions up to 1,440dpi at a maximum speed of 32.6sqm/hr.
Magic Textiles’ bespoke textile printing services are used by clients including Rolls Royce, J Barbour & Sons, and Paul Smith, as well as small, independent designers.
Founded in 2003, the company employs 23 members of staff and is set on growing its client base further with the help of the new Roland machine.
