Lavenham Press takes laminating in-house

Magazine printer The Lavenham Press has brought all its lamination in-house with a Komfi Amiga from finishing kit supplier Intelligent Finishing Systems.

Adrian Quantrill, production director, at the Suffolk-based company, said the company has seen demand for laminated products "rocket" in recent years.

"More customers require work to be laminated because of the finish it gives. We decided to bring this process in-house to have greater control over turnaround times and reduce the amount of transportation required by work," he explained.

"Lamination used to have a mystique about it and five or six years ago we wouldn't have considered doing it. But now, with the high level of automation, it is not such a daunting prospect."

The Komfi Amiga handles sheets up to B2 at speeds of up to 15m per minute. It features an infra-red heated laminating cylinder and automatic sheet separation.
