Kodak to adopt PDF Print Engine

Kodak has pledged to adopt the Ipex-launched Adobe PDF Print Engine in its Prinergy and NexPress workflows.

The firm showed a version of Prinergy using the PDF Print Engine in private demonstrations in its futures lab at the show.

"We will offer customers a choice of RIP on a job-by-job basis," said Judi Hess, Kodak GCG general manager and vice president of workflow and pre-press equipment. "We have 7,000 Prinergy servers out there so it has to be robust [before we launch it]."

Heidelberg has also said it will incorporate the technology in its next version of Prinect Printready. It hopes it will be available in the autumn, and customers will have the choice to run Printready with PDF Print Engine or the current generation of Adobe technology.
