Killer app: Ottimo keeps the RAC rolling

RAC chose Ottimo Digital to print new livery on the back of its 1,400 breakdown assistance vans.

What did the job entail?

The RAC needed new livery for the rear of its vehicles, all of which are constantly on the road, across the country, serving the company’s members. It required a dedicated service to produce and apply all the vinyls, with the provider individually liaising with each patrol.

How was it produced?
The graphics were printed onto grey-backed self-adhesive vinyl, that has a five-year life span, on a 64in Epson SureColor SC-S30600 four-colour, roll-fed printer. They were then cut to shape on the vehicles – as there were three different types of van in the fleet. Ottimo provided a project management and installation service to help fit the livery in various locations.

What challenges were overcome?
Ottimo Digital managing director Nick Lindwall said the main challenge was timing, with all the installations needing to be completed within six weeks. "The weather was also a challenge," he explained. "We couldn’t always do the fittings indoors so we were competing against various weather conditions."

What was the feedback?
An RAC spokesman said: "Ottimo provided a comprehensive and customer focused service for the RAC with a genuine desire to meet the needs of our busy patrols.

"The print job was second to none but what really impressed us was their willingness and ability to deliver a personal service applying the back panels to all the vehicles independently around the country. And delivered on time and on budget."
