What did the job entail?
Four augmented reality puzzles were introduced to the UK in July and Ravensburger is developing a further two for launch in January 2013. Designs range from a Paris daytime cityscape, which displays as a nocturnal view from the top of the Eiffel Tower, to a summer scene that becomes a winter wonderland.
How was it produced?
The puzzles were printed using in standard CMYK onto a linen-finish paper, which reduces glare reflected in heavily lit environments. The top layers were then glued onto a cardboard base.
What challenges were overcome?
Ravensburger marketing manager Benn Bramwell said: "Ravensburger works closely with our consumers to ensure that we are making the puzzles they want. But this project was a completely different development process. It took 12 months to develop and the technology was very specific."
What was the feedback?
Ravensburger product manager Sarah Stevens said: "Augmented reality is the most exciting new development in 2D jigsaws for many years and one that we’ll continue to work on in the future."
