Keprintt adopts CTP in 40,000 move

Commercial printer Keprintt has invested around 40,000 in a move from film to CTP with the installation of a Heidelberg Prosetter 74 and a Maya 62 processor.

The Hertfordshire-based company is currently imaging Fuji's LPNV violet plates, although it plans to switch to Pro-V once the plates become commercially available.

Joint managing director Peter Kett said: "It made perfect sense for us because the cost of the capital equipment was right, the new chemistry-free violet plates are coming on-stream and the laser is very low wattage, which means that it isn't too expensive to run."

Keprintt, which was founded in 1962, currently runs a two-colour Heidelberg SM52 press although it may upgrade to a larger press, such as Heidelberg's SM74, in the future.

Kett said: "The plate processor, which is an absolutely amazing machine, will take the larger plate sizes, so it allows us to upgrade the press without having to change pre-press."

The Letchworth company has imaged more than 150 plates since installing the Prosetter last month.

"The platesetter produces plates faster than I could ever print them," said Kett.
