The six-colour B1 press, plus coater, is the latest investment by the Cumbrian packaging printer, following new vehicles for the company’s distribution fleet and a Bobst gluer earlier this year.
Kentmere's new machine, which will run alongside an existing Roland 76, will begin handling work at the 55-staff business later in the month.
Managing director Shaun Mulvaney said: "Our level of business has grown such that now is the right time for us to increase capacity and consolidate our success. This investment greatly improves our flexibility and the service levels we can provide customers.
"The current economic climate has focused the business and financial worlds on the importance of financial strength and security, which has placed us in a strong position to develop further. We are managing the current recession as we have previous recessions – by capitalising on our financial strength and staying true to our innovative business philosophy."
The 706 machine incorporates Manroland's Automatic Plate Loading and Colour Pilot, with integrated densitometer, as well as PrintNet Press Manager.
Kentmere has also opted for Manroland’s ProServ service and maintenance package, with the Telepresence online fault diagnostic and correction service.
Established in 1906, Kentmere Packaging has an annual turnover of nearly £6m. It produces packaging for markets including food, confectionery and toiletries, and supplies many major supermarkets.
