Edited by Alex Bec and Will Hudson, the 275 × 210mm magazine began life as a series of blogs in 2007, but now the pair have decided to launch it in print.
However much we love posting and reading articles online, there’s still no substitute for holding a beautifully printed object in your hands, said Bec and Hudson.
Bec added The idea of having such a rich, diverse range of content solely online seemed like a little bit of a waste. Over the two years the blog has been running we’ve built up a tone that we wanted to reproduce in a printed format.
Issue 1 of the magazine which launched last month was produced on Colorset Ash 270gsm for the cover and Redeem 100% Recycled 100gsm for the text, supplied by Fenner Paper.
The type of paper we used was directly linked to how well it would print both for the illustration and the photography. The magazine has a real mix of image so we needed the stock to be flexible. Also, we didn’t want the paper to feel too intrusive, so we went for an off white, says Bec.
The first issue features work from Peter Callesen, Bryan Dalton, and Karl Grandin, as well as interviews with Jacob Dahlgren, Hort, Michael Hughes, and Riitta Ikonen.
The initial print run for the magazine is 1,500 and Issue 2 is due out October 2009.
