Ipswich school wins top PrintIT! Award

Students from Northgate High School in Ipswich were declared winners of the inaugural PrintIT! awards ceremony, which took place at Ipex on 8 April.

Rosie Whinney (pictured front centre), Laura Prime (front right) and Kieran Peck (front left)  from Northgate School along with their design & technology teacher Michael Gaffney, were presented with the top prize an expenses-paid trip to the Winward Islands courtesy of PrintIT! by Barbara Crowther, head of communications at The Fairtrade Foundation and Martyn Elmy, chairman of PrintIT!.

The ceremony, hosted by BBC Six O'Clock News presenter George Alagiah (back right), was the culmination of the first-ever industry-wide educational initiative designed to attract more young people to the industry. Nearly 23,000 students from 540 schools across the country took part in PrintIT!, which was curriculum-mapped to the GCSE Graphic Products course.

PrintIT! chairman Martyn Elmy said Ipex provided the "perfect platform to showcase our industry and demonstrate the many exciting career opportunities available to the students".
