Interprint increases capacity with brace of Lithrones

Interprint in Knaresborough is aiming to grow by up to 20% after replacing its two Heidelberg presses with a pair of five-colour Komori Lithrone 528 machines.

The 54-staff general commercial printer has already installed one of the two presses, which replace four- and five-colour Speedmaster 74 machines, with the second to be delivered by the New Year.

Interprint managing director Rob Reeve said that the decision to move to Komori was based on a "significant" price difference with Heidelberg's offering, as well as similar or better levels of print quality, service and support.

"Komori is very focused on the UK, and on my doorstep in Leeds," he said. "Heidelberg seems to be gravitating towards more European service and support."

The installed press has manual makeready and is aimed at long-run work, while the second press features fully automatic makeready for shorter-run work.

Reeve declined to reveal the value of the investment, but said that the new presses would increase capacity by around 15-20%.
