The printing business of Cambridge University Press (CUP) has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification. The business designs and produces multimedia and printed products, including exam papers, in a secure facility.
Philip Myers Press, based in Warrington, has signed an order with Heidelberg for a Speedmaster SM 102-10P. The firm has replaced a six-colour with a single 10-colour perfector featuring Preset Plus Feeder and Preset Plus Delivery. The company believes it will result in reduced waste and increase capacity significantly.
Simpson Group has hosted an open day at its new 7m building for students from the University of Teesside. Manus Blessing, the newly appointed chairman of the Point of Purchase Advertising Institute (POPAI), was the guest speaker at the event, which aimed to help strengthen students' print career ambitions.
Status Design and Print, Bolton, has installed a used five-colour Komori Lithrone 28, supplied by DDJ Graphic Machinery. Director Steve Gray said: "We needed to replace our existing press, which was outdated."
The BPIF-supported Meet the Print and Design Buyers event has attracted more than 25 buyers who will meet with potential suppliers at the 10 May event in Slough. They include Royal Mail, City & Guilds, Balfour Beatty and the Charities Buying Group. Details of their print requirements can be found at www.printanddesign06.com. It will cost 495 per supplier delegate to meet a minimum of seven print buyers in a single day. BPIF members will receive a 10% discount.
Timsons, based in Kettering, has gained its third Queen's Award for Enterprise, this time for its Zero MakeReady (ZMR) high-speed web offset printing presses for book production. Previous prizes were given in 1992 and 2002 for achievements in international trade. Managing director Peter Brown said: "We are delighted to have received the award for the third time."

DuPont is to conduct live demonstrations of its Cromanet CS colour-managed digital workflow at Fespa, which runs at the Rai from 16 to 18 May in Amsterdam. The demo will show off the technologys colour accuracy driving its new Cromaprint 22UV wide-format digital printing and Cromalin proofing systems.
