HP's FB225 wide-format UV Scitex ink meets indoor use criteria

HP has revealed that its newly-launched Scitex FB225 ink adheres to AgBB criteria, which evaluates VOC emissions of indoor building products.

The ink, which was unveiled in November 2011, has been developed for HP's latest flatbed press, the FB7600.

According to Air Quality Sciences, which analysed the VOC emissions, the ink meets stringent AgBB requirements.

HP’s FB225 Scitex inks are claimed to have strong adhesion on plastics, while improving flexibility on corrugated media.

In addition to reduced odour, the company’s ink system is Greenguard Children and Schools Certified, a certification that helps ensure prints produced using the inks are suitable for use in indoor environments.

Alan Watson, general manager at Scottish graphics printer OPG, says the move was positive for the indoor signage industry.

"Solvent printers are still regularly used in the industry, as did we till recently, but new wide-format inks that can be safely used indoors is only positive news and is conducive to a safer environment," he said.

Stephen Goddard, environmental leadership programme manager for HP's graphics solutions business, said: "The fact that the inks have met these standards underlines the point that signs and displays produced with them are suitable for use even in a sensitive indoor environment such as a school or hospital."
