The firm bought two Xerox CF1050 continuous roll-to-roll laser printers to replace two older Xerox machines. The 600dpi printers run beside a new Hunkler cutting-stacking line and software upgrade to GMC PrintNet T.
Chief executive Nick Dixon (pictured) said the kit produced simplex or duplex continuous-feed personalised material at high speeds. It is the first investment at the Croydon site since Howitt took over.
"We are looking at short- to medium-run direct mail, and technology moves fast so you have to keep evaluating or you get overtaken," he said.
Dixon added the investment provided full compatibility of products with the firm's base in Sutton-in-Ashfield, which is an Oc house.
Howitt is considering buying another new digital press for Croydon later this year, added Dixon, who pitched the Xerox laser printers against Oc machines.
The company bought Vertis Croydon in October last year, renaming it Howitt Croydon. The site was previously Olwen Direct Mail.
