Horizon buys set to save Simply Print 30,000 a year

Simply Print is anticipating savings of around 30,000 a year after bringing its booklet finishing and perfect binding in-house with an investment in two pieces of Horizon kit.

The Loughborough-based company signed for the StitchLiner booklet production system with two VAC-Turbo PowerCollator towers and a single clamp BQ150 perfect binder at Drupa.

Both systems are end-to-end automated and JDF-compatible via Horizon's i2i bindery management software and are housed in Simply Print's new 558sqm premises.

Director Martin Coleman told PrintWeek: "By bringing both these processes in-house, it gives us more control and flexibility, which will hopefully allow us to grow that side of the business."

The Horizon StitchLiner finishes flat four-page sections, which is said to eliminate the need to fold into signatures. It runs at speeds of 5,500bph and has an icon-based LCD touch screen for easy set-up and job memory storage for quick job changeover.

Simply Print's new single clamp BQ150 perfect binder offers a broad finished book specification range with book sizes up to 400mm in width and up to 30mm thick.

Andrew Rae, managing director of Simply Print, said: "Having an automated machine that could be easily set up for a wide range of booklet sizes was important. The job memory storage capability will also mean we can store more complex or repeat jobs."

Simply Print was established in January 1997. The company employs 17 staff and runs a range of litho and digital kit.
