Heidelberg to focus on workflow across its two-storey floorspace

Heidelberg has revealed the layout of its Ipex 2006 stand, its largest ever, and announced that workflow will be at the heart of its offering in April.

The firm's stand will use 5,100sqm, 50sqm larger than in 2002. "That's not just so that we can thump our chests, it's because we needed all the space to show the equipment," said Heidelberg UK managing director George Clarke.

The firm will show 44 individual pieces of kit on its stand, which will span halls 7 and 8, including 10 presses.

Prinect, the firm's workflow package, will be shown in a two-storey area, with live presentations every 15 minutes. The area will also house 10 "virtual print shops".

"This is where visitors will be able to look at the whole production workflow. The idea is that visitors will be able get a much closer idea of our workflow offerings," said Clarke.

Prinect will also be shown working with MIS suppliers' products from Optichrome, Prism, Shuttleworth, and Thastern. "I think its important that we demonstrate that we really are an open system supplier," said Clarke.

The show will also be the launch pad for a number of Heidelberg products, including the Diana X folder gluer, the Eurobind 4000 perfect binder and inline spectrophotometer Inpress Control.

The firm remained tight-lipped on other launches, but hinted the three already announced would be the tip of the iceberg.
